Emmy's Hits & Misses

5 Award Winning Looks
Kelly Osbourne looked absolutely  gorgeous in her dark latticed Tony Ward gown. It gives off this royal vibe that is so not expected from Kelly.

Toni Collette stood out in an eye-catching field inspired dress. It may have not been appropriate for the Emmy's but it got people's attention. The simple top of the dress complements the bottom half of it. Definitely unique!

Heidi Klum rocked her Marchessa mini on the red carpet. She never seems to disappoint at award show events. I would hope not being the host of "Project and Runway". She knows that less is more when it comes to accessories!!

"Dexter" star Jennifer Carpenter looked breathtaking in a gray gunmetal one-shoulder gown. It spoke for itself and shined gracefully.

I disagree with Yahoo's 'D' grade stamped on Lauren Graham. There was no doubt she played it safe in a black and white Yigal Azrouel dress but it was simply elegant. Her slit could have been less dramatic but otherwise she looks great.

5 Disappointing Disaster looks

Had never even heard of Holly Burrell and am sure she won't stay in my mind in an optimistic way from now on. The wife of "Modern Family" star Ty Burell completely embarrassed herself in a pink and black catastrophe.

I'm not sure what Rita Wilson was thinking when she put on this Prada chain-linked frock. Its unflattering in every way possible, not to mention her Lucite heels. It's as if she planned to go belly-dancing after the Emmy's.

I really hate to even type the beloved Betty White's  name on this list..... but she completely missed the high bar when she stepped onto the Emmy's red carpet. Her turquoise/lavender hued chiffon outfit and gold shoes failed to impress.

January Jones shocked in a electric blue Atelier Versace hoop-skirt dress. The bustier cups placed on her bust area are from lovely and the scaling texture does not help. Better luck next time January!!

I really wanted to put Dianna Agron on the Award Winning list but the floral organza tiered Carolina Herrera dress went further than it needed to. Having it tiered eradicated the delicate and beautiful work done.It reminds me too much of Little Bo Peep.

Latest Fashion News

I was thrilled to hear recently that the Kardashian sisters will be launching a ready-to-wear clothing  line next year with Australian designer Bruno Schiavi. I love all their unique individual styles and know that there is bound to be high heels, funky prints, and shiny pieces involved with their clothing line. Being aware of their own different physical shapes, I look forward to seeing clothes for every size of woman.

In other news I am uber excited about the 2nd annual Fashion's Night Out in NYC on September 10th!!! If you haven't heard about it, certain retailers in all five boroughs of the big apple stay open until 11pm to attract  fashionistas. This will test how far their credit cards can reach. :) If you are like me and wont be able to attend the global fashion event, you can purchase a t-shirt, long sleeve shirt, or jacket online where proceeds will go to benefit the New York City AIDS Fund. If you are one of the lucky ones that get to attend the event, send me some pictures of you and friends at the event. I would love to put them up on my blog!! In the meantime, check out their website:

Sorry for the lack of pictures this time. Every picture I wanted to download, failed :(

Becoming creative in today's economy

With the dreadful economy the way it is now, it's no wonder people are turning their passion into their hobbies while they find jobs. Marisa Lynch did just that.

After getting laid off from her job, she let her sewing skills drive her to create beautiful outfits out of hideous thrift store finds. For 365 days (on Day 262 right now), she plans to create elegant and trendy dresses, shirts, skirts, and pants based on a budget of $1. Yeah thats right one George Washington.

I think my favorite look is the gold dress that she rendered out of an oversized gown. She says it reminds her of an Gossip Girl episode where Blair sport a similar ensemble.
I think the two dresses look almost exactly alike, with the exception of the Burberry pricetag.

Kudos to Marisa for doing this interesting challenge.
Check out her blog to keep up with her daily outfit transformations:

Thanks for taking the time to check out my blog!!

Obama Daughters' styles

Set your political beliefs aside. Because whether you like it or not, the Obama daughters are setting trends and keeping young girls glued to what they'll wear next. There is no doubt they are increasing sales for their favorite brand name designers, like J. Crew and the Gap. Last November the Gap actually had a bestseller owl t-shirt, after 9-year-old Sasha sported it to an annual Presidential turkey pardon. Not to forget about older sister 12-year-old Malia's classic style. She seems to love stripes and solid colors while Sasha opts for more bright and quirky patterns and textures.

Check out the following website for a slideshow of the girls' outfits over the years. Also my source for this post.

Blogger newbie with famous roots

Pop legend Madonna's offspring, Lourdes Leon aka 'Lola', has found her own grungy/edgy style thanks to her mother. Not only has thirteen-year-old Lola had her own blog since June 29th, but she has just launched the Material Girl collection with her mom at Macy's. She's pretty interesting and down-to-earth in her posts online. I definitely was not expecting her to be so cool.
Check her blog out at
http://blog.materialgirlcollection.com/

I have a feeling Lola is going to make a huge impact on the fashion world someday, so keep an eye out for her!;) Check out pieces that Gossip Girl actress, Taylor Momsen, modeled for the Material Girl collection.

Not surprised to see the black biker jacket in the collection. Lola and Madonna have both been known to sport those over their outfits. I personally love the jewelry and long cardigan and can't wait to purchase them from Macy's!

What do you think? Will you be adding a Material Girl piece to your fall wardrobe?

Have You Heard of These Designers?

Inspired by watching ANTM's New Zealand episode recently(yes I know it's kinda old), I decided to bring to your attention to the famous designers of New Zealand. I thought it would be interesting to learn about designers from different countries. Hopefully you discover a new designer you are inspired by.

HELEN CHERRY

Well-known for her eye for detail and extravagant fabrics, Helen started her fashion career working for Zambesi as a pattern assistant in 1981. She then teamed up with her husband to work at the designer RCM in 1986, focusing on their "Streetlife" collection.Cherry later went on to render her own line in 1997 followed by success with her collection being  featured in Barney's New York and particular boutiques in Australia and New Zealand.Check out some of her designs to the left.I find them quite cute but also sophisticated. Definitely could use these pieces in my wardrobe![:

JIMMY LIM

Part of the newer designer crowd from New Zealand, Jimmy Lim became quickly recognized as Deutz Fashion Design Ambassador of the Year at Air New Zealand Fashion Week in 2004.With several awards under his belt, Lim has been able to cross paths with world renown shoe designer Jimmy Choo. Choo inspired Jimmy's decision to extend his brand clothing to Asia and incorporate their trends into his own designs. An interesting addition to his clothing? Horsehair. Yes from the beautiful animal that makes that 'naying' sound. It definitely makes people curious.

ASHLEY FOGEL

Driven by a husband and wife duo, Ashley Fogel is one of the most sought after brands in New Zealand. Created in 1991, Ashley and Wende Fogel combined their passion and creative minds to render collections based on femininity and class. They are easily inspired by European's "bold" style. In 2008,  the Ashley Fogel brand was given the rare opportunity of sharing the freshly renovated David Jones Sydney flagship store with only two other designers. Love these looks from their past lines. Especially the long black cardigan + colorful dress+black boots!!

Hope you learned about a new designer you had never heard about before.

Bye for now fashobs!! :)
